Performance on Fiscal Responsibility Index praised as he begins Senate run
AUSTIN, Texas – Charles Schwertner today was endorsed by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility in his run for the Texas Senate, District 5, in 2012. The freshman state representative was noted for his strong performance on the Fiscal Responsibility Index.
"As freshman member of the Texas House, Charles Schwertner developed a record of working in the best interests of Texas taxpayers," said Michael Quinn Sullivan, president of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility (www.EmpowerTexans.com).
Schwertner is seeking the Republican nomination for SD5, a seat currently held by State Sen. Steve Ogden of Bryan who is not seeking re-election. A physician from Williamson County, Schwertner served on the House Appropriations and Public Health committees.
"Looking ahead to the 2013 legislative session, and the issues facing Texas, voters are looking for proven leaders who will responsibly balance the budget without levying new taxes," said Sullivan. “The Texas Senate, and all Texans, will benefit from Charles Schwertner’s steady approach to public policy, grounded in common-sense fiscal principles.”
Senate District 5 includes 10 counties: Brazos, Freestone, Grimes, Leon, Limestone, Madison, Milam, Robertson, Walker and Williamson.
